Hmm, I like this look.

2XU compression run is coming up on the 1st April 2012.
Early bird period till the end of January for 10KM competitive is:
$55 (with running singlet and shorts)
The calves compression sleeve, which I bought with extra money was good. So now, am searching for some other compression wear and a pair of good running shoes.
I'm all in for barefoot running, so I'll search around for a good pair, with good support and not so thick soles.

The Chinese New Year
This year, the Chinese New Year falls on the 23 January 2012.
And, I just came back from the reunion dinner. This is a Chinese tradition which is still followed till today in Singapore. So different generations will gather at a relative place, more commonly that of grandparents, to have their annual reunion dinner (团圆饭). Our family went over to have it at my paternal Grandmother's house. This year, we had a steamboat dinner.
So on the first three days of the new year, we'll normally do house visiting, catch up with stuffs and collect Ang Pow. Hurhur.
The picture on the right show Ang Pows (红包). It's given by couples who are married, to the younger ones. Inside the red packet, are some money. It's for good luck.
Now, it's two hours away from the the year of the Dragon.
I'm a dragon baby from a dragon mum.
It's my year.
Happy Chinese New Year!

Swam in the evening at the nearby swimming complex. The one I went to has an indoor pool, competition pool and some slides (if you'd like). Entrance fee to public pools are 2SGD (Approx 8.5NOK and 1.2 Euros) in Singapore.
It's 26 degrees here.
20 laps. 1KM.
Ahhh, Relaxed.

Of masculinity and femininity
I've encountered this name, Geert Hostede this week. Again. First time after the Intercultural Management course at BI.
Culture is defined as the collective mental programming of people in the environment. Of society shared values and norms. Geert Hofstede developed the five dimensions of national culture that helps to explain basic value differences.
The power distance,
Masculinity/Femininity,
Individualism/collectivism
Uncertainty avoidance and
Long term orientation (based on confucian dynamism)
Of masculinity and femininity.
Dorminant values in a masculine society are competition, achievement and success; the dorminant values in a feminine society are caring for others and the quality of life.
Scandinavian countries, which consist of Sweden, Norway and Denmark are ranked high in feminity, scoring 5, 8 and 16 respectively on Hofestede's model. In feminine cultures, sex seggregation is not as prominent. Men can take typically female dominated jobs without being seen as a 'sissy'. Thus the glass escalator effect (men getting preferial treatment from inside the profession but getting discriminated from outside when taking up female dominated professions) will not be commonly seen.
In contrast, Singapore and UK are ranked high in Masculinity. Scoring 48 and 66 respectively. In Singapore, one of National Education messages include 'We must uphold meritocracy and incorruptibility'. Placing emphasis on academic credentials as objective measures of merit. *Why we study so hard? That's why. Haha. People in the UK live in order to work and have a clear performance ambition.
*Note that Scandinavian countries strictly include these three countries. If Finland is in the picture, then they are grouped as Nordic countries. And Great Britain consists of England, Scotland and Wales. UK consists of the the three countries (England Scotland and Wales) plus Northern Ireland.
And 英国=UK
英格兰=England.

The Glass Escalator
What's your stand or views of a male nanny, or a female engineer?
For today's class, our lecturer showed us a video (still on the male nanny, but it's the part where the rest of them laughed hard at Chandler's joke; to let him know that he's still funny). and then we started on the gender diversity of Part D: Social relations.
Although Rachel has no issues, Ross is disturbed by the idea of a nanny, who's a He!
Now watch this.
Men and women tend to occupy different jobs and this has a number of associated issues. One of them is:
The glass escalator
Williams (1992) examined men's experience in four female dominated professions (nursing, elementary school teachers, librarians and social workers). She found that men can get preferential treatment from inside the profession, but can get discriminated from outside.
In this case, Sandy the male nanny may be accepted within his profession and likely supervised by men and may be a little discriminated outside.
Funny illustration.

Ahh, Sushi
So actually, the correct way of eating sushi is to: Pick it up with your hands, dip the sashimi side first, (upside down that is) and finally, put the sashimi side on your tongue, inside the mouth. They have pretty interesting names for the sushi. The most bottom sushi is called the baby abalone warship. So, basically for sushis which has seaweed wrapped around the rice, they are all called warships. I find the name cool.
The orange sushis are the roasted salmon ones. The reddish one, roasted duck breast. (Picture on the left)
There's shrimp tempura too, octopus, squid, salmon and live shrimp sushi. (Picture on the right)
This restaurant served their sushi rice warm, and have crispy and fragrant seaweed wraps.
New found quality Japanese restaurant.
Ahh, sushi, by 板長。

Making the most out of small spaces.
I was searching the IKEA website to find if they sell clothes rail for my wardrobe. It's still looking good, and just need to sort out the structure. Or maybe rather, just install two clothes rail.
Came across this very inspiring and interesting video on making use of small spaces. I used to really like to draw things like that. (which starts from 0.31)
The Tampines stall is just a ten minute drive from here. And, Swedish meatballs would complement the experience perfectly.
