A little glimpse of the British Monarchy

I have to admit that I only got interested after watching the Royal wedding. And thanks to the commentary given by out walking tour guide from the Original London tours, I've caught a few pieces of information. And watching The King's Speech reinforced some of the things he said.

The King's Speech focuses on the life of the King George VI, the father of Queen Elizabeth 2. The movie focuses on the struggle of the King, till his coronation.

The heir apparent will be Charles, Prince of Wales. Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge is second in line to the throne. And yes, he's the prince who married Kate Middleton on the 29 April 2011.

Interesting fact: George VI's elder brother, who abdicated from the throne. broke the tradition on coinage each successive monarch faced in the opposite direction if it's predecessor. His face left, same as his father. When George VI succeeded the throne, he faced left also, to maintain the tradition. Because if there were any coins minted featuring Edward would have shown him facing right. Interesting.

The King's Speech. Highly recommended.
