Today marks the end of the fourth week. We've completed the adjustment period of nineteen days and also a week of Grenade Assault Course (GAC), Live Hand Grenade throwing of the Singapore Fragmentation Grenade 87 (SFG87)* and also the Individual Field Craft (IFC) lessons. I'm currently back home and waiting for book in, in another three hours time.
Before embarking on GAC, we're already instructed to read up on the HG lessons on LearnNet during the adjustment period. And on Tuesday, we started on the GAC. It include the techniques of throwing a dummy from different positions, and also a verbal theory test. Then the next day, we got to throw a SPG87, which is a practice grenade that gives of a little smoke and spark when it goes off. I thought it was a good practice as this gradually builds up a soldier's confidence by helping us to get used to the the sound, sight and fine tuning our technique, as well as imparting the Immediate action (IA) drills to us, right before the actual throwing of the SFG87.
Just when we thought it's already so exciting and wow to throw the SPG87, actually, the best is yet to come. While waiting for our turn, the previous details had already proceeded to the actual live grenade ground to throw the real thing. And when the first one goes off, us, at the shed was like Ooooo...
Soon, it's my turn. After checking the SFG87 for dust, rust and foreign objects, I carefully placed it the my left grenade pouch on my LBV and patiently waited for my detail's turn. I think we were very eager to 'throw it away'. My PC was at the bay waiting for me and after reporting my details, I took aim and followed the instructions to prepare the grenade. My main focus was to get all the steps right and also to remain calm. The more accurate feeling that I've experienced at the bay was actually excitement. It's a one in a lifetime experience and I like it. I'm also glad and relieved that everybody in the company was still safe and sound after everything.
Field Camp (FC) , which is a five day long field camp, will start on Tuesday. We've attended IFC lessons, which helps in preparing us for field camp. IFC is fun, but the thing is that, we have plenty of grime, mud and dirt on us too. It all comes in a package. ;D
I've bought the necessary items for FC from the Lifestylemart at Safra Mount Faber. And gosh, it's a pleasant experience to shop there as they carry a wide range of military products and the ambience is good.
*now, I know what is a Frag. I've been giving and receiving plenty of Frags on the Avenger Alliance game and did not know what exactly it was except that it's a bomb. So yea, it's actually a Fragmentation grenade.
So long!
:D
