Today's a Wednesday. And for those involved in the ATFC life run, we reported in civilian clothing. It's 0940 now. It's supposed to be movie time but the room was booked. So I went around the library, wanting to browse around before reaching for the unfinished book, 'Eye of the Viper'. But before I could, I came across a collection of book- 'The explosive art of close range combat- Wing Chun Gung Fu'.
Last Sunday was my second lesson. Inspired by Ip Man the movie which stars Donnie Yen? Yes. But not exactly the one to ten kind of fighting ability, but more of the it's spirit. The swiftness, efficiency, humility of this particular martial art intrigued me. Since then, I've tried to look for a school to learn. Thinking about the establishment of the commercial schools, the fees and all, I gave a halt to this idea. I know the importance of having a good club/ school, a good instructor as well as a mentor. It is very important in my opinion. And I'd say I'm very blessed in my TKD journey thus far.
But recently after a group gathering, I came to know of a friend who is teaching. So I decided to give to give it a try. Since I have nothing much really going on, on weekdays for now until course starts.
Sparring. Something I love, and something I look forward to when I was still very young in Taekwondo. I still do now, but sometimes prefer not to. I like to watch the exchanges of kicks and hear the clear snapping sound of a well executed kick. I like to watch my seniors fight. And from what my ma'am said, I watched with intense concentration every time. It can start from a very simple reason why I started. I think the sport is very cool. I didn't thought of using it to fight people, or use it a self-defence that time. I was just 14 then and I haven't anticipated any threats or what that may come by. But yes, I thought it's cool. Yes. That simple. And yea, this particular sport i especially love brought me quite far.
When I was reading the Wing Chun spirit section in the book, there's this paragraph which in my opinion is very interesting.
'Spirit, as it pertains to martial arts, encompasses many different qualities. The obvious qualities that come to mind are bravery, perseverance and self-confidence, but in wing chun, the list is expanded to include compassion, charity, respectfulness and humility. These spiritual qualities may not appear to go hand in hand with killer instinct and fighting 'heart', but in fact do. The spirit, as all elements of nature, is a blend of yum and yeung, which should ideally be in perfect balance. For every bit of toughness and 'rough and rumble' in the master's heart, there must be an equal amount of compassion and generousity to maintain a yum and yeung balance' adapted from the book.
Just take the yum and yeung as an illustration of balance.
I like the expanded list of qualities. And after the first lesson, I've learned that force is not encouraged. This is the softness. One element of the internal development.
This blog will primarily be used to log my travel experiences. My first destination will be Helsinki, next Oslo, Svalbard, Stockholm, Bergen and London. Now, I'm back in Singapore.

Read a hard copy book.
Just bought a book at Times. 'Return to a sexy island' by Neil Humphreys. The author writes for on the sports column for the newpaper and that part was always filled with sharp witted humor. Hahaha. Am expecting the book to be entertaining.
I'm trying Wing Chun with my friends tomorrow!

Weekends!
I'm back to TKD training on friday! It was quite a decision by me and Clar to be down for training. And since it's Shifu's birthday, there's an extra reason to be down. A seriously cool session.
On Friday, the Fantsc3 plus NMsquareG went to 吃好料 at 牛角。Oishi desu! We had two large portions of Wagyu Karubi and others which includes pork belly, Harubi and Karubi...
Ahh, those dripping oils from the marbling! Ahhhhhhh! :d Okay, we're topped with so much Fe2+.
And today, I drove down to transit road in search of embroidery service. Army market's been closed for quite some time and I've been searching awhile for shops which provide this service. And, yea, I've finally done what I need to do.
I did waited for quite sometime. Say 2.5 hours for the whole embroidery project to finish. But I didn't regret waiting because they provide good craftsmanship!
Thinking about that, I ordered one tag sometime earlier this week at another place and they gave me sub-standard work. I guess, being picky is not the point. The point is, the shopkeeper argued with me with an obvious mistake; the wordings were not aligned and the fonts were obviously not uniformed. So, nonono! I didn't accept the work of course. Bummer.
This week, I've encountered two people who should be the role models of all service providers. I met one of them today. Actually, I had many LBV tags that I need to complete. One pair each for me, my buddy and Lydia. Plus embroidery on helmet cover, jacket and 2x skills badge. Actually, the collection time is usually the next day, but the the shopkeeper said he'll try to complete them by 6.30pm (it's stated on the webby that they closes at 6pm) because I told him I wanted it today. So as promised, after he finished serving all his customers, he disappeared to somewhere. The aunty, I assume that it's his mother, told me, it takes time to write out, stuffs like that, since chinese characters are involved.

So diligently, he finished his work at 6pm. Then, from North Point, I drove down to collect my stuffs.
Great work. Good service. And one happy customer.
Okay, my trip in search for the non-cam phone was futile today. It's sold out. :/
But then, but then, I bought another thing.
Adipure Women's 360 trainers!
My bunions are getting bad. And it hurts now. If not for my buddy who pointed it out to me, I still thought it's normal. Ouch!!!...
I guess it's really time to do something 'bout it. Hmmm, I've always wanted to do barefoot running cause I like to have a feel of the ground. This shoes is provides almost that and it's comfy. More important thing is that and it don't constrict my bunion area. But alas, I'll still look around for the insole which provides alignment.
Shall try them out tomorrow at work.
Tata!
